The BMW M series cars are some of the best in history when it comes to power, performance and all round ability. What used to be a BMW M3 coupe has now become a BMW M4 – with the coupe variant being shown here. Gone is the previous generation naturally aspirated V8 engine too, in favour of a turbocharged V6 which has more power (9 bhp) but more significantly a mammoth 550 torques.
Would sir prefer a six-speed manual or seven-speed M Double Clutch transmission? The choice is yours. The DCT however is slightly faster and can shove the car to 62 in a mind meltingly quick 4.4 seconds. Considering the type of car this is, a 32.5 MPG figure is simply staggering and one which other supercar manufacturers should be eyeing cautiously.
Huge reserves of torque peaking at 550Nm are available from just 1,850rpm – exactly the point at which maximum power of 431hp is attained. This is then maintained until 7,300rpm. Maximum engine revolutions are 7,600rpm. All of this means the M4 Convertible delivers a seemingly never-ending surge from little more than engine tickover to the electronically restricted top speed of 155mph.
The BMW M4 Convertible goes on sale in the UK on 6 September 2014, priced at £60,730 OTR. It is the Car Articles ‘Something for the Weekend’ feature for May 2014 Part 2 as the sun is finally out and we can’t think of anything better than blasting down a B road on the way to a nice stayover somewhere.
