The Eco-Friendly Koenigsegg

November 22, 2008 by Mr Butterscotch Leave a Comment

The Koenigsegg CCXR

Carbon fibre is used for a ton of (reasonably expensive) things these days, but few places has it been put to better use than the Koenigsegg CCXR.  The car has a body woven from the super tough material, housing a monster 4.8 litre V8 in there too.

With the help of UK company GE Aerospace, the crazily-fast motor has been made just that bit quicker.  The large (but not overly large by supercar, or rather American standards) engine churns out 1,004bhp, which is good for a 0-60 sprit of 2.9 seconds.  Top end is reached at an almighty 254 miles per hour, enough to put hairs on your chest whether you’re a granny or a glamour model.

To put the CCXR into perspective, one only has to look at the famous benchmark for hypercars – the Bugatti Veyron.  By comparison, the Veyron chucks out only 1,000bhp and reaches 253.something miles per hour.  So, their performance is pretty much equal.

Returning to the whole eco-friendly issue mentioned in the title, the engine is powered by a mix of ethanol and gasoline (of course not the standard petrol that you pick up at Asda mind), which means that fewer emissions are produced and slightly higher mpg figures are reached.

Well, if you’d like one you had better get saving (and hope that they aren’t all sold).  This mighty European road destroyer comes in at a rather hefty £1.5 million pounds.  So, if you can afford to buy one, please pick me up for a quick drive out.  I’d love to give your car the best, most glowing review ever for five minutes behind the wheel…
