How do you feel about a car controlling itself whilst you can get on with other tasks? Audi is hedging some bets that this is actually the future of driving and will be showing two working prototypes at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
The first car helps to reduce the driver’s workload in stressful situations, such as in congested traffic. At speeds of between zero and 37mph, the system helps to steer the car within certain constraints, and also accelerates and brakes autonomously. The second car can autonomously park itself via the remote key fob or a smartphone.
So, what do you think about these two new bits of kit that may well filter down sooner rather than later? It seems like a natural progression to me – as our lives become more congested so do the roads and city streets. Perhaps a system to aid parking or reduce drive fatigue is just another step. For many though, it may be seen as a technological step too far…
