Alfa Romeo has opened the order books for the new MiTo – even though it isn’t due to arrive until January 2009. To boost interest however, each dealer in the UK has taken delivery of a display model for the showroom, despite the fact that they are classed as ‘display’ and aren’t registered (therefore aren’t allowed on the roads).
Alfa is very keen to have the MiTo shown to the public as it believes that it finally has a credible car to follow the Alfa Sud – a small car that featured truly brilliant dynamics and a great design. What hasn’t been mentioned is the reliability levels – though Alfa has much improved recently in that area too (however, don’t ever assume they’ll be on par with the Nissans or Mazdas of the world).
The MiTo is claiming features that belong on car models of a much greater size (and wallet damaging potential) and not normally seen in the small car bracket that it is firmly in. Prices start from £10,975 for the 1.4 litre Turismo model (petrol) when deliveries arrive in late January.
