There are plenty of things to mess with when it comes to cars, and the results can range from the sublime to the ridiculous. When a regular ride just won’t do, there are plenty of amazingly odd cars on offer to make your driving dreams come true:
Double Decker Car
This little beauty is the tandem for those who want to lose the bike and live life on the racetrack. It’s not road legal so it’s no use for a trip to the shops, but for an incredible adventure then the double decker car is the only option. The way it works is the top passenger steers and their buddy on the bottom controls the pedals. The best thing about the double decker is that everyone can have a go at this outlandish driving style as it’s offered as part of an experience day with a bed car, sofa car and even an on-road office!
The Flat Mobile
Measuring only 19 inches tall, Perry Watkins’ car has to be the world’s flattest vehicle. The looks are firmly modelled on the Batmobile and there’s a gas turbine jet engine strapped to the back so this definitely isn’t the car to do the school run in.
The Pyramid Electric Car
The Dream Car 123 has to be one of the wackiest looking cars in the world and what’s more this economical little lovely is electric. Maker Greg Zanis has even made a garage designed to harvest solar and wind power to charge it up! Made to look like an Egyptian pyramid, it’s not as easy to park as a coupé but it does light up in a range of neon colours so if you’re sick of struggling to corner in the car park, you can stick on the lights and get the party started.
The Peel 50
The Peel 50 is a diminutive dream all wrapped up in a slick 60s package. This one-man three wheeler comes without the option to reverse so it’s not great to manoeuvre and it’s only got one headlight and one windscreen wiper. Still holding the record for the world’s smallest car, it was originally advertised as the model made to accommodate ‘one adult and a shopping bag’ so you know sitting in it is going to be a squeeze. It was designed for the city and you’ve got to admit, finding a parking space is never going to be a problem in this tiny triumph of engineering.
So if you’re feeling fed-up with your conventional car, maybe it’s time to get in the garage and start inventing a crazy car all of your own!
