Auto Express has produced a comprehensive test of summer vs winter tyres – and the results might just surprise you. A friend of mine was a regular BMW driver with rear only drive (none of this new Xdrive four wheel drive). He confirmed to me that the BMW had more traction than his four wheel drive Audi in the winter. What was the big difference? The rubber. His BMW was fitted with cold weather/winter tyres whereas his Audi was not. If you do a lot of miles it’s well worth considering switching over colder months to keep yourself safe on the road.
