Look past that awful name – the Gumpert Explosion – and you’ll find a very interesting car indeed first seen at the Geneva Motor Show 2014. The Explosion is courtesy of the marque that created the Apollo, so it should be very well sorted for performance and handling. It has a 2 litre turbo engine shoving out an almighty 420 horsepower.
All wheel drive should keep that power in check and it apparently shares much with an Audi TT so reliability shouldn’t be a problem. As is normal these days on an exotic machine, a carbon fibre chassis keeps everything nice and stable. Prices are somewhere around the (very reasonable) £90,000 mark.
For me at least it is like a miniature Audi S5 which is no bad thing at all. It sounds like a complete hoot to drive too and 0-62 is completed in around 3 seconds, meaning plenty of ‘B’ road fun is to be had. Expect it to be very rare. I’m sure it goes without saying we’d love to have one parked up outside!
