The 2016 Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship calendar has been confirmed and includes the incredible opportunity to race at the world-renowned Silverstone GP circuit in support of the World Endurance Championship (WEC).
Following on from the success of the 2015 season highlight supporting WEC at Spa-Francorchamps, drivers will once again be able to perform under the watchful eyes of LMP and GT teams and gain exclusive access to the Porsche Team throughout the weekend. This is yet further evidence of the close ties between Carrera Cup GB and the wider Porsche Motorsport Pyramid.
Contested over 16 races and eight weekends, the Championship will support the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) at Brands Hatch (Indy), Oulton Park (Island circuit), Croft, Snetterton, Knockhill, Silverstone (National) and Brands Hatch (GP). Teams, drivers and sponsors will therefore benefit from Porsche Carrera Cup GB action being broadcast live on ITV4 and total crowds of approximately 370,000 over the duration of the season.
Carrera Cup GB drivers will also be eligible to participate in the prestigious Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup support race at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone and qualify for a limited number of guest slots with Carrera Cup France and GT3 Cup Challenge Benelux in their championship round supporting the WEC at Spa-Francorchamps (both at extra cost).
Confirmation of the calendar follows the announcement of a series of eye-catching improvements to the Porsche Carrera Cup GB for 2016. A substantial increase in prize money for the top three finishers in the professional category, three exclusive, fully-supported in-season tests and an increase in each driver’s slick tyre allocation will all serve to cement the series’ reputation as the premier British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) support package.
These additions will complement the highly successful concepts introduced at the beginning of 2015. These included the Rookie Class with its £50,000 winner’s prize and highly popular ‘Team Cayenne’ scheme which rewarded teams with two or more drivers.
