Granted, readers that are familiar with this segment will probably be saying ‘that’s not a roaring, hugely quick sports car’! And of course they would be right. It is however the all new Audi Q7 SUV, available to order from April 2015. Significantly lighter, considerably more efficient, appreciably more technologically accomplished – this is the all-new Audi Q7 in a nutshell.
The stance has moved away from very tall and upright SUV territory to almost large estate type proportions. We accept that it might not be for everyone but as with most German marques it appears to be a rather lovely evolution rather than a revolution of the previous model.
Standard kit is a very generous specification including MMI Navigation Plus with MMI Touch, Audi connect (3 month trial), Audi drive select, keyless go, parking system plus and a powered tailgate. All cars feature the third seating row making the Audi Q7 a very versatile car indeed. S line versions are fitted with all-weather LED headlights, 20-inch alloy wheels, privacy glass, four-zone climate control and S line styling enhancements.
The imposing new SUV which has shed up to 325kg in its second generation will become available to order in the UK next month priced from £50,340 on the road for the SE model, rising to £53,835 on the road for the S line – it will reach its first customers here in August 2015.
So why has it made the ‘Something For The Weekend’ feature? Put simply, even without a chance to drive this car we reckon it’ll be an absolute bahnstormer. Useful, purposeful and imposing on the road, what’s not to like? With a genuinely significant weight reduction and new engines, fuel economy will be up with power at least around the same if not also boosted.
We challenge you to find a weekend activity where the Q7 wouldn’t be a suitable mode of transport to arrive in. That’s the reason it has made this feature. Other cars might have you arrive quicker, but few will be able to take the family, the gear and the dog at the same time.
