We at Car Articles are extremely sad to learn of the fate of Jeremy Clarkson. Whilst it appeared inevitable from the moment that the assault was reported, it was with a heavy heart that we heard the news. Clarkson’s contract will not be renewed. Twelve years of the three lads on our screens getting up to all manner of hijinks and this is the way it was brought to a conclusion. The BBC perhaps were left with no choice and it also now appears that there is a possible police investigation. It is a poor state of a affairs for a much loved celebrity.
After so many ‘gaffes’ recently reported, perhaps it was always going to come to some sort of end in this way. Clarkson is a fellow that divides opinion. What can’t be left in doubt however is the energy, enthusiasm and sense of camaraderie that the three lads have. Nothing lasts forever, but the world – and especially Sunday evening – is a duller place without Top Gear. The name may go on but it has been irrevocably changed.
I personally hope that the three lads get together on another programme where they are given free reign creatively. Especially as rumours are abound that Andy Wilman will also jump ship to go with them. Perhaps Top Gear had grown away from the ethos of the BBC to such an extent that there was a resentment over a lack of control? It’ll be interesting to see which creative direction is taken on the next project. Cars, bikes and boats anyone?
It isn’t our place to comment on what did – or did not – happen but it seems that all parties are in agreement as to the chain of events that have led us to where we are now. We only hope that you look back as fondly as we do to the many hours of fun we have had in front of the box, watching the TG lads getting up to all manner of mischief. A sad day certainly, but one we hope that looks to a brighter dawn for all involved. RIP Top Gear.
