Whilst his colleague Jenson Button took the Australian Grand Prix in dramatic fashion, Lewis Hamilton appeared in the news before the result by having his Mercedes car impounded. Following leaving practice for the race, Hamilton appeared to drive in an erratic fashion down the road leaving some tyre smoke in his wake. This was enough for the car to be impounded and the luckless driver to be booked.
In other news, Hamilton did manage to put in a good performance during the race, finishing a very commendable 6th position, which could have been a fourth but for a collision with Mark Webber.
Given the racing at Bahrain, it was pleasant to see that Australia had far more action, spills, offs and general racing moments. It looks as though this season could well hot up after all! Here’s the low-down of who finished where:
1 J Button
2 R Kubica
3 F Massa
4 F Alonso
5 N Rosberg
6 L Hamilton
7 V Liuzzi
8 R Barrichello
9 M Webber
10 M Schumacher
In terms of performance, it’s probably Vettel that I feel most sorry for. It looked as though at one point he was easily going to take first position, only to find that once again a brake failure lead to him having to be a ‘DNF’. Absolutely gutting, especially when Webber was also on course for a better position before the incident with Hamilton. However, it does prove what a cracking car Red Bull have.
